A young girl, with rags for clothes, walked along the cobbled sidewalk, dragging her legs with a token in her hand. She had planned to buy her father a newspaper to read whilst he was in bed, sick. She had found this token near a filthy drain and had picked it up, feeling happy that she'd be able to get her father something that would keep him occupied whilst she wasn't there.
The day had been gloomy as it usually was in London, the streets busy and the air humid. As she reached the corner of the street, she spotted some guys sitting around the pub, they were rowdy and messy, she didn't want to pass them but she had no choice, she really wanted this newspaper.
As she approached the corner she thought of all the good times she had had with her father, even if there were only a few. Much to her surprise, the men at the pub didn't harass her and she continued to the newspaper stand, feeling a whoosh of excitement flowing through her veins. She had never bought her father something and was very pleased to be able to do this for him, even if it was just a newspaper.
